HICKEY–John Jack, affectionately known by his loved ones as Poppy Jack, of Long Beach, NY suddenly at home on Monday, November 19, 2012 at 80 years of age. Born December 28, 1931 in NYC and a graduate of Cardinal Hayes High School. He was a consummate New Yorker through and through. Starting out as a young apprentice at the prestigious NY Racquet & Tennis Club as a teenager, he rose to become the Head Professional at the Greentree Court Tennis Club, LI, NY. He was proudly honored on numerous occasions at the prestigious Tuxedo Club in Tuxedo Park, NY for his endeavors and accomplishments in the great game of Court Tennis. In 1989 he retired as a steward from TWA working out of the Ambassador Clubs at Kennedy and LaGuardia Airports. He was a proud veteran, as well as, proud to celebrate his 45th anniversary for his sobriety. In 2009 he was commissioned as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion at our Lady of the miraculous Medal in Point Lookout, NY. In addition to his loving wife, Helen, he is survived by his seven loving children Laura Curtin (predeceased) Christine Tukums, Janice McCormack, Joseph Filkowski, John Filkowski, Irene Naudus, Edward Filkowski, and 18 grandchildren all who will be forever in love and indebted to this great man. Family will receive friends Saturday 7-9pm and Sunday 2-4pm and 7-9pm at The Thomas A. Glynn & Son Funeral Home, 20 Lincoln Ave., Rockville Centre, NY, Mass of Christian Burial Monday 10am at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal RC Church, Point Lookout, New York.
